The cathedral and its stained glass
A UNESCO site, Notre-Dame Cathedral of Chartres imposes its two mismatched spires and its vast set of thirteenth-century stained glass, including the famous Chartres blue. You linger before the north rose window, search for the labyrinth drawn on the nave floor, a spiritual path open to all. A date under these vaults turns a simple afternoon into a timeless moment.
The old town and the Eure
Below, the old town slopes down to the Eure through a maze of cobbled lanes: Rue des Écuyers, Tertre Saint-Nicolas, Rue aux Herbes. Bridges, old washhouses and terraced gardens form one of the region’s loveliest urban walks. You taste the pâté chartrain and a few Beauce specialties. A gentle setting for a date to extend on a terrace of Place du Cygne.
Chartres en lumières
Every year, from April to October, Chartres en lumières stages around thirty monuments in free night projections. The cathedral, Town Hall or media library are dressed in stories of colour. Nothing is more romantic than an evening walk hand in hand under these transformed façades. On Lyad, Chartres members share their favourites; it is up to you to live one together.
